PlayStation Plus – We were played and we don’t care
All me a conspiracy theorist but, when the PlayStation Plus service began back in 2010, I called it back then and been proven right over 12 years later that; PlayStation was training us to get addicted to their service.
Back then PS+ wasn’t required for online gaming unlike Xbox Live, but it offered free games and online storage for saves on the cheap. It was revamped a year later to offer more AAA offerings and was marketed as the best way to get high budget games on the cheap if you didn’t mind waiting around 6 months after release. So when with PS4 came out, you are already lock in with their service you looked past the fact it was required for online play.
Then in 2022 it was revamped but this time to try and compete with Xbox Gamepass, even though they denied it was a direct competitor, we all knew it was. But now offering the ability to play games from almost their entire hardware line-up (Vita will get it’s time to shine someday), it’s not surprising that a large majority is skipping the mid-tier offering and going straight to Premium.
